Selecting the right Paramotor

There are many factors that a pilot must consider when embarking upon selecting a new paramotor, although not an exhaustive list here are some points to consider.

Thrust - This is always a key factor in deciding on which machine to go for. The pilot will need enough power to leave the ground and get a good rate of climb, however too much power and the paramotor can be hard to control especially for the new pilot. PAP offer a range of machines for all pilot weights including tandem.

Build Quality – Look closely at the build quality of the paramotor you are considering buying. At PAP only the finest aviation quality materials are used. Look closely at the welding and the finish of the machines. Often copied PAP is never bettered.

Ease of launch – believe it! - contrary to popular belief it is not just the wing that is the deciding factor in ease of launch. Because PAP use their own Active System it is easy to feel and control the wing on launch, unlike other systems which often leave the pilot zig-zagging dangerously down the field.

Geometry – correct geometry is key to your flying experience. A PAP paramotor will give you the best flying experience available, cancelling the torque effect, allowing the pilot to be comfortable on long flights. Crucially feeling how the wing is behaving, so that the appropriate action can be taken to ensure the pilot flies safely in control.

Weight – By this we mean the weight of the paramotor. Whilst the weight of the paramotor is only carried by the pilot on launch and landing, it is often uncomfortable to stand up and run with a heavy motor on your back. Also when you land you will have to 'catch' the full weight of the motor. Pilots are much more likely to fall to their knees on landing with a heavier paramotor. PAP machines offer to very good overall weight and are designed to reduce the effects of carrying the motor.

Back-up – does your manufacturer/dealer offer you after sales support and spares off the shelf? One thing for sure is that at some point you will require spares for your paramotor and you can bet you will need them when the weather is flyable. At Skydragons we hold most popular and some less popular spares in stock, so that we can keep you flying.

Re-sell - As the number one paramotor in the World PAP has many imitators. These manufacturers naturally compete by being cheaper. In order to be cheaper, the materials used and the quality of the build is often inferior. Not to mention that copies do not have anywhere near the same resell value

We have now made available for download a simple PDF guide for choosing choose the correct engine to suit the pilots needs, according to pilots all up weight, take off site altitude, type of flying required, type of Paramotor wing used and Paramotor frame size. In addition there is also a model range comparative guide, so all currrent PAP machine specifications can be compared and creesses referred to.
