Motor/Wing:
PAP ROS 125
About Me:
Estelle Chevalier of the French paramotor team kindly lent me her PAP Top 80 at the World Championships 2003 Long Marston. It was easy to fly, comfortable with no noticeable torque reaction. I wanted one and put my order in immediately to Noel Humphries of Skydragons. Being a spectator at the Worlds 2003 inspired me to have a go myself and I have since flown in 4 national championships finishing 7th or above and was a member of the British team at the Europeans Castello Branco 2004 and the World Championships, Beijing 2007 where we won team silver.

I now have 3 PAPs, a Ros 125 and two Top 80s so I guess I like PAPs.. The Ros is powerful, incredibly smooth and quiet. The Top 80 is also smooth and quiet, a bit lighter and has better fuel economy. Any paramotor though is only as good as the back up service and thankfully PAP after sales support is excellent, Skydragons always seem to have the part in stock I need and it often arrives next day allowing me to get straight back into the air for more fun!

About Me:
I am an avid free flight and motor pilot, with approximately 3 years experience of free flight and just over a year on the motor. I fly the PAP ROS 125. Weighing in at about100kg I need something that can get me off the ground easily and also give me a good climb rate, which this machine dose with ease… I love it! My wing is the Dudek Reaction, which maybe is not the easiest on the ground but once in the air it is a real delight to fly.

I have been very lucky over the years that I have been able to experience many exciting things. I have sailed at the helm of a tall ship. Dived on shipwrecks both in the UK and abroad. Walked across crevasse-ridden glaciers. Climbed mountains and even helped raise twin boys (the hardest so far!!!). But to fly paragliders and paramotors is the most exhilarating things ever. Long may it continue!

About Me:
Have had regular flying dreams since childhood, a keen interest in birds and always an urge to fly.  It wasn’t until I first saw a paramotor that I truly believed this was something I could do, and still remain happily married to a seriously vertiginous lady and best friend, Maggy.  My smart move was to sign for a two week course with Sky School at Paramali, Cyprus.  The BMAA chief instructor was a fantastic guy called Tom Hughes, who schooled us hard and well and made sure we had a great time.  When the “unexpected” sea breezes blew us out, we could fall back on other adventure activities: capsizing catamarans, go-kart crashing, getting lost in tank ranges, jumping over 9m waterfalls…  I’m sure this will sound all too familiar to his ex-students!

Back home, I bought kit and have been flying at every opportunity for the last 3-4 years.  Mostly this has been alone, but being old, a slow learner and shy this has suited me.  I’ve just treated myself to a brand new Pap Top 80, mainly for greater range and low hang points, but also for its beautiful build and reliability.  My home field is in Oxford, squeezed between Brize Norton CTR and the Abingdon Parachute Drop Zone.  I’ve probably flown over every legal spot in a 20 mile radius and got to know the local red kite community.  I have also flown the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall and nowadays regularly in Ceredigion in Wales, both of which are phenomenally beautiful..  My ambition is to fly other places in UK and around the world.  Other dreams: to thermal; to fly above clouds and to get Maggy up on a tandem.
